Print 3NT vs. 6mi by Mikael Velschow-Rasmussen May 27, 2012

You're playing pairs friday night at the local club.

(since it's friday night draft beer is flowing steadily Cool)

You're playing for the first time with a friend. And you have only agreed on some basics.

i.e.: 1NT=15-17, 5 card majors, 2 over 1 as (9)10+ and only F1.

You arrive at the following decision:

Comments to the bidding:

2: You're not 100 that this is 6-card suit

2: You temporize a bit, so you hope that later 4 is not passed out.

4: Meant as slam invitational and also interpreted as slam invit.

5: Obviously not positive (but since you agreed that 4nt would have been to play, again you're not really sure)

My own thought went along the following lines:

 - I'm betting that 3NT will give a better matchpoint score than 5, so i will bid on.

NB: I've added 5NT as a choice (see comments)

Part 2:

When i published this article i had an ulterior motive - UI.

My partner had a BIT (break-in-tempo) before bidding, and we had a lively discussion, whether i was allowed to bid on.

From the poll i conclude, that this is OK - roughly 90% bids.

I thank people for participating in my experiment Wink

As you can see 6mi and 6NT is a lucky winner, as long as it's played from the W-side.
