I had a fairly spirited (for us) disagreement with a partner over the (unopposed) sequence 1♦-1♥//1♠-2♣//3♣. We play SNT 2/1, and in this sequence 1♠ is forcing. What is/should be the meaning of 3♣?
My position is that 2♣ asks the questions ♥ support? else ♣ stopper? so that 3♣ should show 4+ ♣; partner's position is that it should show uncertainty about playing NT, either a true partial stopper or something positional like Ax. I think my view is "standard" and superior theoretically, but he has seen a lot more hands than I, so he gets the benefit of a scintilla of doubt....
