7NT redoubled

Firstly and foremostly: this was NOT a fix. I saw the board be shuffled and dealt before my very eyes.

The great James Green set up the Bath University Bridge Club a few years ago now. Sadly all good things have an end and tonight was his very last session at the club. As it's the end of the year unfortunately we're playing rubber bridge as numbers are dwindling considerably. The 6 of us each partnered each other for 2 boards each tonight. On board 13 I was partnering James (we've just come back from the EBU National Pairs event where we just about managed to not disgrace ourselves) and the unimaginable happened.

6D was made my righty after quite some tank. His apparent annoyance at South's 7C bid seemed genuine enough, so he bid 7NT just to teach her a lesson, and she redoubled to teach him one back.

As you can see, 7NT** by N is absolutely unbeatable. But North thoroughly enjoyed himself by playing out every single card.

"Why didn't you lead a spade partner?!"

The perfect way to say goodbye to such a great bridge player and friend. Oh, and as was pointed out, "It's a good thing this didn't happen last Monday, or nobody would have believed you!"

A 16 point 7N unbreakable. Just like you read about in bridge fiction.
