ACBL Team cost vent - if it's as stupid as it looks. I'm hoping I was wrong.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but this is frustrating me now.  I am an Orlando local, who has to work during the day, but was hoping to maybe find a team that wanted a fifth, so that I could play in the evenings and maybe give someone else a rest.   As a matter of fact, I was about to post on the partnership forum as such, until I realized that the way the ACBL fees are set up, playing one session could cost me $48!   Yes, the stupid rule states that a 5 person team pays for the entire event, so I'd have to pay for the sessions I'm not even playing in!  Should my team lose in the first round, I pay $16 for nothing.  If they lose in the 3rd round, I'd have to pay for rounds 1 and 3 that I couldn't even play in, and then the team would be eliminated.

I can't imagine why attendance is dwindling.

Or am I reading this wrong, and the ACBL isn't really that short-sighted or greedy:

"Tournament Fees

Team Entry Fees: For team events of three or more sessions, the entry fee is the base price of the event, times the number of people on the team. For example, an event with a base price of $16 is $64 for a team of four, $80 for a team of five, or $96 for a team of six."

Or does that rule not apply to Knockouts?
