2NT showed 22-24 and 3 was normal Stayman (you don't have to like the 2 response but there are merits in it).

We are told:

"4♣ is Gerber

5NT ask partner to bid 7NT with maximum and 6NT with minimum

6NT/7NT is to play

4NT would only be invitational to 6NT and not Blackwood."

I voted for 7NT.  I found it impossible to construct an opening hand where 7NT was other than a good contract (I don't accept that KQx KQJ KQJ10 AJx is close to being worth a 2NT rebid showing 22-24).

But most people voted for 5NT.  As I see it, there are many hands which are not a maximum where 7NT will be cold, for example KQx AKQ Kxx AJxx or KQx AKx KQxx AJx.  And the 10 might turn out to be a huge card: give partner KQx AKQ KJxx Axx and 7NT is at least 75%.

It seems to me that people are placing too much emphasis on arbitrary numbers of HCP (the magic number in this case being 37) without looking at the trick-taking capabilities of the two hands.

Or am I just wrong?
