An Infrequent Squeeze Hand History From Kitzbühel

This hand we played in Kitzbühel some weeks ago. The story is a kind of deblocking squeeze. Let's see, how it happened?

After my 1NT opening in South, everybody passed, and the opening lead was the 4 of spades, according to rule 11.

I won the lead in the dummy, East followed it with the 2, and I played a succesful diamond finesse to the Queen, in order to make it difficult to duck it with the King.

The diamond finesse was good, West gave the five of diamonds. Now I played a small spade from the dummy, West won it with the King, and East discarded 8 of clubs (Lavinthal, encouraging hearts)

West, after some hesitation, played the 10 of hearts, East gave the 2, and I ducked it. Now, West played the King of hearts, I ducked, and I won the 3rd heart trick with the Ace. I went to the dummy with a spade, and I played the 2nd diamond finesse with the jack, West gave the 9 (UDCA) so diamond distribution seemed to be 4-2.

Now it was time to establish at least 1 club trick, so I played a club and guessed well to put the Jack to West's 9, and I won this trick.

Now, West's hand became countable. He had 5 spades with the King, K108 in heart, 95 in diamond and the AQ9 most probably in club.

My problem was, that I could not cash the Ace of spade from my hand, because than West will have an extra spade trick, and I will be cut from hand, when I play diamond. But what will West discard to the 3rd diamond trick, after cashing the blocking Queen of spades?

If he discards his 5th spade, I will be happy, because I can play Ace of spades before my 2nd finesse in club, and I will collect easy 9 trick. So West was forced to discard his Queen of clubs, with the hope, that I will win the least trick in dummy, and I lose the last diamond the East's King, because if I cash the Ace of spades from my hand to discard the last diamond from dummy, he will make his 2nd spade trick.

But I wasn't forced to do it. I played now club without cashing the Ace of spades, and I deblocked the King of clubs to the Ace, so I could win the last 2 trick in my hand with the 10 of clubs and Ace fo spades, making 9 tricks and around 80 percent score in the pairs tournament, despite the prefect defense from trick 2.

The complete distribution was:
