2 was unconditionally game-forcing, I believe. It also promises more clubs than spades and, in theory at least, an unbalanced hand.

2NT would be Lebensohl/Ingberman suggesting (temporarily at least) a weak hand. Partner would be expected to bid 3, after which South could bid 3 to show extra length. 3 would be the fourth suit, not necessarily promising diamonds, but denying any obvious other bid. Anything else would be natural and forward-going. I'm not sure whether our use of 2NT as a relay to 3 is all that sensible here, but it's what we've agreed, I believe.
