I want to ask a question about Kickback agreements of people who play it. Here's a hand that came up recently.

Our KickBack agreements always seem to be a work-in-progress. Here's one agreement that we settled on. If you find fit in a suit other than the one that either you or partner bid naturally at their first opportunity, then if a natural suit happens to coincide with the Kickback suit, i.e, 4T+1, then it's still Kickback as long as neither expressed support for 4T+1 at a lower level when then could have.

An alternative is to disallow any natural suit as an RKC candidate and use the cheaper of next unambiguous Major or 4nt.

In the above auction, although responder has bid naturally it is obvious that opener's 4 is not natural. So in the first agreement it's a RKC. If 4 is RKC, what do you do if you wanted to cue ? Typically you'd have to use 4nt as a substitute for the cue-bid of the Kickback suit. But if you bid 4nt, you don't have a convenient Ace-asking any more.

But if you adopt the second agreement and let's say you have had one more and one fewer in the above hand, then it'd go 1-1-3-4, now partner has to bid 4 for RKC, instead of the cheaper 4.

In your agreements, is opener's 4
