Clear as MUD (USA2 vs Bulgaria SF Segment 3 board 15)
(Page of 3)

I perused the worst conventions thread with interest, having played most if not all of them at one time or another.

This hand reminded me of that thread, how would you fare?

7 led.

Prospects are reasonable but need to navigate the spade suit and avoid 2 heart losers.

What now?

Hearts need to be 2-2 or stiff royal onside.

Opponents lead middle (MUD) from 3 small.

Your move.

The Bulgarian declarer opted to get a count in the heart suit and found them 2-2, LHO having QT

Another diamond ruffed, all low spades after to K and a spade. Finesse or drop?

Perhaps influenced by the preempt, declarer finessed North for the Q.

Would S open 3 at unfavorable with Qx QT AQJxxxx xx vs x QT AQJxxxx xxx?

I wonder if South had played the Q on 1st what declarer would have done.

Note that a low club lead (from 3 small) would have made the winning trump play more apparent.

Declarer also got trumps right at the other table for a push.
