Analysis by Oren Kriegel

The key point here is that South should overcall 1NT. It is essential to play this 1NT overcall as natural in this day and age. You should strike the phrase "Sandwich Notrump" from your vocabulary. Given what people open on and respond with, not being able to show a strong balanced hand is a huge loss.

Over a natural 1NT overcall, I just play systems on, even though that's surely an inefficient way to play. All natural would be better, but memory strain is a real issue, and you can't cover everything. It's much more important to have a solid agreement than have an optimal agreement.

I'm not sure whether West should bid out with 2. Usually it pays to with a distributional hand, so count me in.

East might probe for slam, but I think that's slightly too bullish, even with useful cards. South is "known" to have a heart stopper, so picking up trumps could be an issue, and there are the issues of picking up clubs and spades not running.

On a diamond lead, declarer should have no difficulty coming to 11 tricks by finessing hearts through South.
