Analysis by Fred Ferguson

This deal has a little better bridge logic than some of the deals today (but not much).

Bidding: West deals and opens the bidding 1 and East responds 1. North/South are silent throughout. While West would like to Splinter in 4, West is just not quite strong enough, and so, settles for a jump rebid of 3 which shows 15-17 high card points and 4 spades. West bids 4 which is a help suit slam try and West says not much help hearts and I have some help in hearts. East bids 4NT as RKC Blackwood and West shows 1 keycard. 5 asks abut the Q and 6 shows the Q and the K.

Play: On opening lead South cashes the A and sees dummy with a singleton diamond. South shifts to the 10 which actually finesses partner's Q. This deal is easy to play not pulling two rounds of trump and putting one diamond on the K and trumping 2 hearts.
