Condignly For A Champion

This year I played the national MP championchip with Henrik Tormássy. We played well, but a little bit unfortunately, so we finished 13rd, so we didn't reach the final "A" for 12 pairs.

One of the reasons was, that sometimes we found ourselves between very "ugly" people. Let's see, what had happened?

I hate sacrifizing in a pairs tournament, but I did it, because these 4 major contracts in this vulnerability are often made.

West, Gabor Winkler led the four of spades, East, Hommonay won it with the Ace.

He continued with the nine of clubs, and I became happy, because it seemed to be singleton, so now I cannot fail over game bonus and on the other hand, 4 spades looked like a safe contract.

So I played the ten of clubs frommy hand, West won it with the Ace, and continued the suit. I played small club from the dummy, and Hommonay won it with the Queen!

I went 2 down in the contract, losing 300 points in the hand.

It worth recognizing, that if Hommonay plays spade in trick 2, which is a very normal play, I can play only 1 time club from my hand, in trick 3, otherwise I can be tapped off in the hand. So I surely had to put the King into the 1st club trick, because I knew from the bids, that the Ace of clubs must be at West.

Therefore I had lost 100 points only, below the part score of E-W line.

This genious solution brought them 23 from 38 MP's instead of 5. And in the end, they won the championship. Maybe they deserved it...
