Crowd Sourcing BZ Hypothesis #1

There is a hypothesis that the gap between their bids on the bidding tray shows weakness or strength.

A small gap indicates weakness, a large gap indicates strength. There is a further hypothesis that the gap for a penalty double indicates if partner should bid on.

BZ played 208 boards on video at the European Bridge Team Championship (EBTC 2014). I have the data for 192 boards (the Germany v. Poland match has not been crowd-sourced for start time). I am going to exclude the 16 boards against Denmark because the YouTube URL contains two minus characters next to each other and this seems to cause problems with creating a working link on BW. So we have 176 boards to look at.

In order to validate this hypothesis one needs to look at all boards that they played. This is too much work for a single person in the time-frame involved.

Below are the 176 boards. I am listing each board as "BZ1, BZ2... BZ176" along with a link to the start of the bidding for the board.

If you are interested in testing this hypothesis, post as a reply under the first comment below, that you will look at one or two boards. Document the boards that you will take, e.g. "I take BZ1, BZ2". Do not take more than 2 at a time. Please take them in numerical order! After you have done 2, then you can take another 2. Bidding seems to take 2-3 minutes per boards, so this will take you about 5-10 minutes for 2 boards. Let's see how quickly we can get this done.

When you have looked at your videos. Post your findings under the second comment below. What we want is the boards that you looked at, and any gaps noted. Use the abbreviation "m" for medium, "s" for small, "l" for large of the full wording. For the first bid, use "e" for edge if the bid is next to the edge of the tray. Please try to be consistent with the formatting. For example: BZ42: medium:edge:small:large. Just the results, in this format, no extra comments. Separate with either a colon ':' or a comma ','.

I ask that you separate the comments when you take the board (reply to the first comment below), and where you report the results (second comment) to make it easier for someone to tabulate.

If you notice anything unusual, post it under the third comment. It really helps if you record the time that you saw something, and the URL. I am trying to make it easier for someone to tabulate later. There are probably going to be about 100-150 posts of someone looking at video, and 100-150 posts of someone reporting the video. Let's try and keep this neatly organized.

I am going to create a web page that has the list of these 176 boards, along with the start/stop time. I will also include the bidding and another information on that page. I will post when this is ready. The remaining 32 boards (Denmark/Poland) will be held in reserve to further test the hypothesis if needed.

The goal is to try to collect the evidence to make it easier for the powers that be to test this hypothesis.

If you see an error in the start time, send me a PM.

If someone wants to volunteers to be the tabulator, please step forward. Send me a PM. I can give you a spreadsheet to help with this.
