You failed to call the director in order to get more explanation on the bidding as you were sure that "everything was natural" as you were told (Stayman promises a major), and dummy will appear with 4, 5 short and 10-11hcps facing a declarer with 4cards in (2 response) and no 4cards in .

As partner did not double 2 (he would double with KJxxx / QJxxx(x)), you decide not to lead a . Your first thought is to lead a and then wait passively to get your tricks. Finally you decide that a lead would be dangerous if partner has Qxx or Jxxx.

Finally you lead a hoping to find declarer and partner with doubleton  and not lose many tricks.

As your 5 faces the table, dummy comes out with:

Declarer plays immediately low from dummy and partner discards the 7 (S/P). (Now you remember the "Murder At The Bridge Table" ... your partner is not happy at all and South does not seem to be surprised at all).

You stop the play, close the screen and ask again South about his bidding. He is upset now.... still "says natural".

You play the board till the end facing a nice 20% result (lucky you, some West players, opened 1 with your hand...and there are some more 3NT there).

Finally, North says: "Did you have 4 cards in hearts?" and South answers: "Yes....but 3NT is a better result for us!"

The deal was:

South knew that his partner had 4 cards in and he failed 3 times to bid 4.

When his partner asked him how many he had, he said 4. As you insisted asking why, he said "i was not sure what to bid with 4-4M".

The same answer was given to the director.

What do you think of the bidding now?

(P.S.1: With this result, you fail to enter the finals. With a 4 =, you qualify. In 5 tables, the declarer failed to make 4.

P.S. 2: Are you going to learn from your mistakes now? :) Next time remember to call the director! ).

South didn't know how to answer with both majors (he plays with the same partner 10 years)
South thought that he showed 4 by bidding 3 and he didn't have to bid 4
