Did I say too much?

So, here I was waiting patiently to get a director call and my patience paid off: "DIRECTOR!".  I went over to the table and saw that a lead had been made and dummy had come down, with South as declarer.  I asked how I could help and East told me that this was the auction:

W
N
E
S
1
1
X
3
3
4
P
P
P

After North had jumped to 3, East had inquired about the meaning of 3 and South had told her that they play it as Bergen, so it was preemptive.

East said, "No no, Bergen only applies when you're the opener so here, it's a limit raise."

South said, "Oh really?  OK, thanks, I didn't know that." and then bid 4 over the 3 bid.  Everyone passed, and when the dummy hit the table, it was indeed a limit raise!

I asked what the problem was and East said that South had explained the 3 bid as preemptive but dummy has a limit raise.  East wants to know whether I can make South pass East's 3 bid.

I told East that if she wanted South to pass 3, perhaps she shouldn't have informed South what 3 really meant.

"Ohhhh, I guess I shouldn't have," said East.
