Do you spend too much time playing bridge?

Just listened to a brilliant interview with Demis Hassabis, the creator of Deep Mind (Google's AI go beating project).

About half way through he reminisces he gave up serious chess when he was 11 and second in the world for his age at the time, when an adult was overly critical of one of his blunders and he came to the conclusion that we could be using our minds to solve bigger issues like solving cancer instead of mastering chess.

Not many of us can hope to have an impact like Demis but it made me ask the above question which I am sure many of us have over the years and probably know the answer to.
