EBU Summer Meeting

Two years ago, Richard Fleet wrote an article (https://bridgewinners.com/article/view/english-tournament-entries/) in which he lamented the decline in numbers attending events in England. The OP was as follows:

'In another article, Barry Capal (late EBU General Manager) commented:

"In England the number of people playing in major competitive events has dwindled every year for many years now."

As evidence, the entry for the Swiss Pairs at the EBU summer congress has fallen from 270 in 2016 to 214 this year. Ten years ago, there were almost 500.'

In 2018, the Summer Meeting moved, due to force majeure, to London, and Swiss Pairs numbers dropped to 156. Maybe the change was unpopular, but this year it has moved back to Eastbourne, and the entry is ... 160
