FS: What They Did NOT Do

Last year FS played in the Schapiro Spring Fours, England's premier event, and we presented the final stages on BBO. We had seen their faultless play on BBO, but, hey, was it too good to be true? If they were doing something underhand, what could it be?

We wondered if they were somehow getting hand copies, perhaps by intercepting the hands as we loaded them to the BBO Operator's laptop. And we took precautions.

How wide of the mark we were. They made a beeline for the Closed Room (where their team was NS) and stayed there throughout. We didn't notice a thing: how could we have missed the board placement?

Here's a hand from the Final. Lotan Fisher was declarer and it demonstrates his talent. Maybe we will have to wait till 2025 to see such expertise from him again, if ever.

This year's event starts on Friday (29th). You can see the latter stages on BBO on Monday and Tuesday (2nd and 3rd May).

By coincidence, the BBC are repeating a play about the collusive cheating case involving Schapiro and Terence Reese. It is on Radio Four at 2.15pm UK on Friday. Drop me a message if you'd like me to send you an M4A recording.
