Grand

Matchpoints, both sides vul.

The opponents were silent throughout the auction. We got to 7 clubs on these two hands:

North
AKxxx
10
x
AKQxxx
South
xxx
AKQ97
A
10xxx

What approximate % of the time do you expect it to make?

FWIW, our auction went: 1H>2C>3D(splinter)>3S>4D>4S>4N (RKC for clubs)>5D(3 KC)>5H(QC ask)......and partner now jumped to 7C

If you think this is a poor Grand, please suggest a method for avoiding it (being aware that after a pretty typical 2/1 start of: 1H, 2C...... it becomes difficult to "see"  the 8 card side spade fit). And that even if you think it's possible to determine that there is a side 8 card spade fit, that the auction might "time itself", like ours did, such that the RKC bidder felt they had to ask at that point otherwise get into a murky cue-bidding sequence (and still not know how solid trumps were) and not knowing of the vital matching shortage in Diamonds.
