This unattractive auction may or may not have been how it happened in the Common Game on Thursday night.

In any event, E led the 3, and W played the J!

Here is where the Rabbit must pull the wrong card and not win this trick.  Winning the trick means that when W gets in and plays the K, E has an easy overtake to run the suit.   By DUCKING, the suit blocks and E can never get in once the diamonds are set up.

Perhaps in another version of the story, WEST can be the rabbit and accidentally play the J rather than the King he meant to play, which would have been an easy duck at trick 2 for N, and again the suit blocks.

So to beat this hand, W must play the J rather than the K at trick 1, UNLESS N is good enough to duck it!

Are you good enough to duck the J at trick one? Or are you going to be the one to have E lead 4th best from AKxxx.  Fascinating.
