How do you play this 3 bid?

For the avoidance of doubt, the question is how you play the 3 bid (in your most regular partnership if it varies), not how you would prefer to play it or think that it ought to be played.

A discussion of a recent problem revealed no unanimity regarding the following sequence:

W
N
E
S
P
1NT
3
X
P
3
P
3
?

The double is negative by agreement and the scoring is MP.

Four suggestions have been made:

1. 3 shows an artificial slam try in hearts (the same as it would do in the unopposed sequence 2NT-3-3-3).

2. 3 is natural and competitive (a direct 3 would have been forcing).

3. 3 shows exactly four spades and is forcing.

4. 3 shows 5-3 in the majors and is forcing.

I have included another interpretation, five or more spades and forcing since some people play a direct 3 as non-forcing.

Finally, if you play it one way but would prefer another, please comment.

Artificial slam try in hearts
Natural and competitive
Forcing with four spades
Forcing with 5-3 in the majors
Five or more spades and forcing
No idea - I've never thought about it
Other (please comment)
