How much extra is required for "seriousness"?

I've read many articles and comments that relate to the "serious 3NT" or "non-serious 3NT", but I haven't yet found one that defines in detail what is required to bid 3NT in the former case or bypass 3NT in the latter case.

Although I always play non-serious 3NT this poll is equally relevant for partnerships that use serious 3NT.  It also doesn't matter whether partnerships instead use 3 for this purpose when hearts have been agreed as trumps.

It's clearly not sensible to specify the requirement for "seriousness" in terms of strict point count, but it's still useful to have some agreement as to how much extra is required in general terms.  To set the ball rolling, here is a three-part suggestion:

(1) An ace in reserve is always sufficient (to use serious 3NT or bypass non-serious 3NT).

(2) A king in reserve may be sufficient if the rest of the hand is reasonably suitable for slam.

(3) A queen in reserve is rarely sufficient, but might be if the rest of the hand is very suitable for slam.

Are these suggestions about right for you in terms of strength?  If not, would you expect more strength or less?

Are they about right for you in terms of flexibility? If not, would you expect more flexibility or less?

Please vote for the option that best describes your understanding of "extras".  Any comments or links to relevant articles are welcomed.

The suggestions roughly correspond to what I play.
Strength is about right, but I'm more flexible.
Strength is about right, but I'm less flexible.
I expect stronger, but flexibility about the same.
I expect stronger and I'm more flexible.
I expect stronger and I'm less flexible.
I expect weaker, but flexibility about the same.
I expect weaker and I'm more flexible.
I expect weaker and I'm less flexible.
Other (just in case I've missed something)
