In the Well: John Kranyak

John Kranyak was the captain of the winning team in the 2013 USA Team Trials. Despite facing a star-studded schedule (#6 BLANCHARD, #3 DIAMOND, #2 NICKELL, and #1 FLEISHER), his team of young guns, playing 4-handed throughout, won each match in convincing fashion to become USA 1 for the Bermuda Bowl later this year.  Today, John enters the Well to answer any questions you may have.

John Kranyak

John started learning bridge when he was 12, from his parents who were both national-level players.  After graduating high school, he moved to New York to attend Columbia University, but after a couple of years, eventually decided to pursue bridge professionally.  He has been playing professional bridge ever since, with a brief respite for playing poker during its Internet boom. His most memorable bridge moments were winning the NABC Mixed Pairs with his mother Laurie, participating in 4 World Junior Team Championships, and winning the Team Trials this past June.  (He is so excited to represent his country by playing in Bali that words cannot describe it!)  He loves bridge and he loves travelling.

Away from the table, he is an avid sports fan.  Although he loves watching all sports, he's especially a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes (football and basketball).  He also enjoys dinner and drinks with friends (fruity drinks and good cold beer are his favorite!), and wakeboarding.  One of his lifelong goals is to wakeboard off the coast of every continent, even Antarctica!

John will be online checking this article throughout Thursday. If you have a question for him, just write one in the comments area and he'll answer to the best of his ability!
