Major Slam Swing Opportunity for Diamond

The following hand was declared in 4 in the other room, 22 imps hang in the balance on whether declarer can make it or not.  The defense could have had an easy beat if they avoided playing the 2nd round of .  Unfortunately when your opponents are down by 50 imps in the match, you cannot be sure that they are 'being honost' in their bidding.  Hampson could easily have faked a 5 bid and drove to slam hoping his opponents wouldnt figure out to cash their tricks, so Stansby did the logical thing of trying to cash his 2nd .

Now declarer's 11th winner is set up in dummy and he has to decide how to take his 12th.  He knows the layout of the suit because west tried to cash the 2nd .  The way he played it, he needed one of the 9 or J of spades to be with East and trumps to have broken 3-2 or singleton J.   There was a winning line available to him that he may have found... If he runs all 6 of his spades and then goes to dummy and cashes his , east could not protect both his guard and his guard.   Tough game, unlucky for declarer that it was J9 with west, a very unlikely holding.

11 imps back to Fleisher improving their lead back to 47.
