The opening lead of the 3 went to the K, A, and ruff

Jansma led a low diamond at T2 to the Q and West's K

Can you really blame West for try to cut down dummy's ruffing power by playing the A and a heart?

This allowed declarer an entry to dummy with the J to shed his last diamond on the Q

With West holding Hx in clubs the impossible became possible.

What's more is that the Rosenthal team, down by 14 imps going into the penultimiate board, picked up 9 here

and another 6 on a better part score on the last board to eke out a 1imp win vs the Schermer team to advance to the Vanderbilt semifnals.
