Messy bridge 5.2 - Stupid system
(Page of 3)

You are playing a swiss matchpoints session when you pick up a hand with a series of interesting decisions. Instead of polling them separately, I have put what I believe to be the 4 main ones into an article.

Several disclaimers:

1. You are playing complex methods, which likely won't be your favoured vintage.

2. I don't know the answers to the questions. Happy to share the whole hand but beyond that I am just curious to see what people think.

3. Whilst I am involved in the hand, I may or may not be the main perpetrator. All 4 players are BW regulars though so please moderate comments accordingly. Thanks :-)

Enjoy!

Your options now are:

Pass = Forces XX; To play or denies A/K

XX = wishes to play in 2xx but needs some tolerance from partner (Stronger 2xx hands go through Pass-XX-Pass)

2 = relay asking bid with A/K (your stock bid if they hadn't doubled)

Other = natural and shapely with A/K (a typical break of the relay would be a 7 card suit or support + shortage)

Question 1: What do you bid?

Your options now are:

Pass = Probably inadvisable but you never know

3 = Ask (3N = a minimum, higher responses are RKCB for )

3N = To play

4 = Asking in hearts  (4 = Min, 4+ = RKCB for )

4 = any sign-off hand (forces 4)

Question 2: What do you bid?

Question 2b: Is your bid affected if you aren't confident your partner can remember these crazy methods?

So 3 did show club shortage and you bid 3N(!) which is where you end up:
