ACBL land. E/W play 2/1 including Bergen raises.

East 3 bid was alerted. South didn't ask for an explanation. North asked for an explanation of the alert after the 4 bid by West. It was explained as weak (Bergen raise 4 + trumps, less than 6 points). As you can see East (which was me by the way) misbid - I was thinking Standard american limit raise. (I should have bid 3 showing limit raise and 4 plus trumps). West's explanation was correct per our agreements.

I had posed a bidding problem as to what North should bid over 4 . Everyone that voted picked Pass. However, at the table North bid 5 which went for -800 after West doubled.

After the hand was played, I notified the opponents about my misbid, the director was called. North said he would never have bid 5 if he had known the East hand was stronger; and after consultation with another director (who thought the result should stand), the result was changed to average/average. So we went from 100% on the board to 50%. (Correction - of the 8 other pairs, 4 played 4 making 6, and the other 4 played it in 5 making 6).

Did the director make the right call? I wasn't particularly bothered by it, but my partner thought that because he had voluntarily gone to 4 (even though he thought my hand was weak), that North should have been more cautious and passed. (especially Vul vs non-vul)

Leave in as 5 doubled for -800
Roll back to 4 making 6
