MORE Fat-Cat Board of Directors Largesse! :(
(Page of 2)

Kindly note that I am most definitely not "trying to bring down the ACBL". Simply being the messenger, and pointing out the truth, in an attempt to save the League from forces within, seems a meritorious objective.

It was pointed out in comments that NO DISTRICT DIRECTOR WHO IS STAYING ON NEXT YEAR VOTED FOR SAVING $300,000+, WHICH WILL NOW CONTINUE TO FLOW TO THESE VERY INDIVIDUALS!  CONFLICT OF INTEREST, ANYONE?  An easy savings of over $300,000, from the ACBL annual expenses, was nixed last week, during the luxurious, BoD resort Meeting in Honolulu!

"Item 183-52: Reduction, Relocation, and Rescheduling of BOD Meetings

Codification Chapter IV- ACBL Board of Directors Section C. - Meetings - be amended as follows:

The Board of Directors will meet prior to each the Summer NABC at the site of the Summer NABC. It will also have a face-to-face meeting in early calendar 1st Qtr of each year in a location conveniently located close to the site of the ACBL HQ. The goal of the members of the Board of Directors is to have shorter meetings with more work being done in advance electronically and otherwise. The spring and summer meetings will end on the day before the Board of Governors meeting, the length of each meeting will be determined by the ACBL President in consultation with management.

Section 2 – Conduct of Meetings

2.4 - Annual Actions

2.4.1 - The president and the treasurer will be elected at each fall 1st Qtr meeting. The term of office will begin on the day of election and continue until the election of new officers at the following winter meeting.

2.4.3 – The operating budget for the following calendar year will be approved at the fall summer meetings.

Effective January 1, 2020

***Motion failed Aye: 7, 15, 19, 25 Abstain: 10, 12***"

THE ONLY DISTRICT DIRECTORS FULFILLING THEIR FIDUCIARY DUTIES (ALL WERE AT THEIR LAST MEETING AND NOW RETIRED FROM THE BOARD):

7 - Bob Heller

15 - Phyllis Harlan

19 - Marv Norden

25 - Mark Aquino

DISTRICT DIRECTORS NOT WANTING TO OFFEND THEIR COLLEAGUES (ABSTENTIONS):

10 - Russ Jones (Incoming President)

12 - Dennis Carman

This motion would likely have cut the District Director annual expenditures by 60% (or more!), which have recently been reported as around $515,000!  Unknown is whether the self gifting of free entries at any and all, entire NABCs would have continued, or been restricted to the Summer NABC, where the BoD Meeting would have been held at the Tournament site.

Please ask your District Director the reason(s) why this easy and massive cost saving was voted down, particularly if one of the below.

Please tell the following your opinion as to their wasting of over $300,000, for trips meaningless to the administration of the ACBL, but which fund wonderful vacations and multiple free bridge playing opportunities for themselves.

DISTRICT DIRECTORS ABROGATING THEIR FIDUCIARY DUTY TO THE ENTIRE ACBL MEMBERSHIP:

Kathie McNab (2nd Alternate) #1, Paul Janicki #2, Carlos Muñoz #3, Joann Glasson #4, Sharon Fairchild #5 (retiring from the BoD), Margot Hennings #6, Georgia Heth #8, Jay Whipple #9 - Outgoing President, (?Russ Jones #10 - abstained), AJ Stephani #11, (?Dennis Carman #12 - abstained), Suzi Subeck #13, Sharon Anderson #14, Paul Cuneo #16, Bonnie Bagley #17, Merlin Vilhauer #20, Jackie Zayac #21, David Lodge #22, Kevin Lane #23, Al Levy #24.

(IMHO, at a minimum, the BoD should always explain the reason(s) for its actions or inactions, to the entire membership. Here, I personally see no benefits to the Membership).
