Join Bridge Winners
Out with the Old

dsc_0040 The Louisville Spring NABC ended on Sunday with a bang. The Vanderbilt final which came down to the wire was one for the ages.  But this nationals will be remembered for more than just an incredible finish.  It was the tournament where the next generation of top bridge players collectively made a territorial statement, led by Joel Wooldridge who dominated the tournament masterpoint race. Joel had two wins, a 2nd, and a 4th in national events to win over 454 masterpoints last week. Here are some of the amazing performances by younger players:

Joel Wooldridge: 2nd NAP A, 1st Platinum Pairs, 1st Silidor Open Pairs, 4th Jacoby Swiss

John Hurd: 1st Platinum Pairs, 4th Jacoby Swiss new guard

Joe Grue: 1st NAP A, 2nd Vanderbilt

Gavin Wolpert: 1st Silidor Open Pairs, 4th Jacoby Swiss

Greg Hinze: 1st Jacoby Swiss

Jacob Morgan: 1st Jacoby Swiss

Jenny Wolpert: 1st Women's Swiss

Ishmael Delmonte: 2nd Vanderbilt

David Bakhshi: 2nd Vanderbilt

Shane Blanchard: 1st NAP A

Kevin Bathurst: 2nd NAP A

Sjoert Brink: 2nd Jacoby Swiss

Bas Drijver: 2nd Jacoby Swiss

Krystof Buras: 4th Jacoby Swiss

John Kranyak: Vanderbilt Quarterfinals

This marks the beginning of a new national bridge era... one where the younger generation can no longer be written off as inexperienced.  These performances are fantastic for the game, and with a bit of luck will help alter the stereotype, 'bridge is only for old people'.
