Partner fails to alert. Should you do the same?

When the first bid of a conventional sequence goes unalerted, should the player's partner "keep up the ruse" by not alerting later bids? To illustrate the problem, suppose you are playing Reverse Drury and the auction proceeds (opponents silent):

P - 1 - 2* - 2*

But partner did not alert 2. You are ethically obligated to bid as if partner did properly alert (and explain) your response. That much is obvious. But should you alert 2? Doing so will wake partner up^, but not doing so will cause the opponents to think you are interpreting 2 as natural.

^Technically, shouldn't matter. Partner is ethically obligated to ignore the alerted.

2 should be alerted
2 should not be alerted
