My P posted a slam hand recently where a wheel came off and we missed our best spot by quite a bit :(

Having got to 6C on the cards below you get the TC lead

For those who remember P's post, he asked what 2NT should have been here and unfortunately alerted my natural 3C bid, responding 3D therefore suggested no 4CM (but we sort of knew that already or why not offer rdbl)....so I assumed a 3352 or (32)53 or possibly (32)62 shape hand and potted a slam before the alert issue could created any more confusion or damage. :(

Anyway I digress - as my interest here is the best line of play.

The QC is played from table and not covered by RHO, who plays small quicky. So after some thought you have two options:-

1. and the simplest is cross to hand and play for trumps 3-2

2. Assume RHO started with KJxx in clubs and play to shorten your trumps by playing AS, spade ruff, KH, AH heart ruff, AD, KD, spade ruff, cross with a diamond to dummy and play another, RHO is now stuffed.

Line 2 comes a cropper if diamonds are 1-3 as needed but trumps are 3-2 after all, or if diamonds are 2-2.....but if they are 2-2 you can revert to playing for trumps to be 3-2.

The opp double on minimal values (passed hand) does suggest some shape, but leading a singleton trumps is generally shunned. A singleton diamond lead may have appealed if held....etc etc

So which would you play for, comments or observations welcomed

PS I made it, but not sure if I played the best line

Trumps 3-2 - it's not worth risking a ruff in this now cold slam?
Trump shortening - Everything suggests trumps are 1-4
