Procedure after BIT ?

A significant BIT occurs in a competitive auction, and the opponents call the director and complain that the BIT influenced partner's subsequent bid. What is then the correct procedure for the director to follow if he/she feels that the opponents have a  valid complaint: (a) unilaterally adjust the auction?  (b) poll a number of the bidder's peers to ascertain what they would have done? (c) something else?
