Same doubled contract by same team in both rooms

Context: KO teams (Coupe de France), IMPS, 32-deal match, two expert teams meeting at early regional stage, all players well-acquainted (our opponents frequently being teammates in other competitions). Here is an amusing deal from that match (reconstructed from memory, spots approximate, which does not matter much here).

Conventional wisdom says it rarely pays to play in the same denomination in both rooms (with the possible exception of 1NT). Our team had yesterday evening the dubious, if infrequent, privilege of playing the same doubled contract in both rooms...

I was South in the open room, where East chose not to overcall. I (perhaps wrongly) did not expect East's double to be penalties (so even failed to ask) and elected to await developments. I am still waiting! Still, -100 (after East led and continued s when in in ) was no major drama on a severe misfit deal.

In the closed room, East chose to overcall and found a very unfriendly layout for this action; so -500. Conventional wisdom surely thinks the 12 IMPs lost on this deal are still a cheap price for our sins.
