Senior age limit

I bacame aware that the WBF Executive Council has decided to increase the age limit for the seniors internationally.

The age limit is increasing from todays 60 years to 65 years over a period of eight years, starting from 2018.

As of January 1st 2018 the age limit goes up to 61 years. And then they add another year biannually, ending up at 65 years from January 1st 2024.

There’s a short notice regarding this decision on page 3 in bulletin 7: http://championships.worldbridge.org/lyonwt17-files/bulletins/Bul_07.pdf

Based on prolonged life expectancy and the increasing mean age of the bridge population, I think this is a good decision.

I also think it’s better doing it slower, and admitting in new seniors during the period the age limit is raised; last time, starting in 2006, the age limit was raised one year five consecutive years, admitting no new seniors for a five year period.
