Showing a solid major as responder

My partner and I recently played this hand (in a team game):

West
AJ62
74
Q106
AJ83
East
8
AKQJ853
J42
75
W
N
E
S
1
P
1
P
1NT
P
4
P
P
P

Unfortunately opening leader had AKxxx and after the diamond ruff there was no miraculous squeeze. Obviously 3NT would be laydown.

While the actual West hand is not quite ideal without a sure diamond stopper, this hand made me wonder whether anyone allocates a sequence over the 1NT rebid for East to show a solid seven-card major and offer a choice of games, preferably as part of an XYZ structure.
