Against Platnick's 4, the play started K ruffed, K to the ace. Igla returned the 10, offering declarer a narrow path to success.

Platnick won the Q, ruffed a diamond, led a spade ducked to the king (rising with the ace is no better), ruffed another diamond, ruffed a heart, and exited with a spade. West had his two spade tricks, but declarer had the rest: +420.

At the other table, North passed over 1NT, then doubled 4, which South removed to 4. Lindqvist led the K, and Brogeland played the 4, suit-preference for clubs. When Lindqvist won the A, he shifted to a club. He was later able to hop with the A and give a ruff. The Q was the setting trick, sending 10 IMPs to DIAMOND.
