Symmetric Two-Bids (clubs and diamonds both strong and artificial)

Bridge World  had an article (I think early seventies) proposing a convention called "Symmetric Two-Bids".  Two clubs and two diamonds were both strong and artirificial with cheapest response almost automatic, with two clubs usually a strong two in hearts, two diamonds a strong two in spades.  Two notrump rebids by opener were available to show two ranges of balanced-hand strength.  The editors added a footnote that they thought the idea was promising and that they planned to try it.  I haven't heard anything subsequently, and wonder what happened.
