The New Zealand National Championships

Fancy a week’s quality bridge followed or preceded by ski-ing, trout fishing or golf? Why not try the NZ championships – 23rd September to 1st October 2016? The championships are played in Hamilton – a city in the centre of the North Island and within easy reach of the world-renowned trout fisheries of Taupo and Rotorua (the latter also world famous for its geothermal sites) the Ruapehu volcanic skifields and any number of superb golf courses. Not to mention that Hobbiton of LOTR fame is less than half an hour from the tournament venue and that you can fly in a couple of hours to the unbelievably beautiful South Island City of Queenstown – which I guarantee will blow your socks off. The championships cater for all classes of player (previous championship winners include such luminaries as Helgemo, Del Monte and Hackett (all three). The programme revolves around the NZ Pairs (three days with reducing fields and 50% carry-overs) and the NZ Teams – two days of qualifying followed by a 16 team knock-out. For those whose partners commit them to early exits from the main events, there are a variety of consolation events – matchpoints, point a board, Swiss Pairs and teams. By the end of the week, I guarantee that you will not complain about being under-bridged.Eight days of bridge for (as I write) Aus$420 US$ 321 Euro 282 Sterling 220 Why not take a look:
