The Time Has Come

For those of you who know me well, poker is as much a part of my life as bridge. It's been a life-long goal of mine to reach the top of the poker world and this week, I’ve received an offer that gives me the chance to try. The focus and dedication that it takes to achieve that goal will not leave me room to continue with my bridge career. I’ve thought about this decision long and hard. With the upcoming Bermuda Bowl, this decision was particularly tough, but ultimately I think it will bring me the most happiness.

The question that is probably on everyone’s mind is what happens to my team for Veldhoven. Bobby will remain on the team and they plan to wait until after the completion of the 2011 USBC to select my replacement.

As you know I’ve become a part of Bridge Winners, and I will continue to write on a sporadic basis, but my participation here will be much less than before. Kevin Fay will now be taking over primary responsibility for Under Further Review. I know this column has been popular, and it will remain a staple part of Bridge Winners. I hope our readers will continue the great discussions and assist him by sending high-quality hands.

Through all the ups and downs, the bridge world has been so great to me. I’ve met so many amazing people and some of them are now like family to me. To everyone who has supported me: my friends, Fred, and Bobby, thank you all so much for the thrilling ride. I wish you all the greatest success and will enjoy every second of heckling at you from the sidelines with my good friend Larry Cohen.
