NS play a natural system based on five card majors and a weak notrump; the 1 and 1 openings both promise at least three cards. The default opening is 1 with 3-3 in the minors and 1 with 4-4 (hence 1 shows four unless the shape is specifically 4-4-3-2).

The 1NT rebid shows 15-17. 2 is a puppet, employed either to stop in 2 or to show one of several invitational hands. The follow-up bid of 2 simply shows an invitation with five spades, nothing more, nothing less. You may feel that this hand is not worth an invitation, but I hope you can live with the decision.

2NT was noticeably slow. What do you think the BIT suggests? Which actions by responder would you disallow?

Edit: I am not asking what the LAs are. When I conducted a small poll without mentioning the UI, Pass and 3 turned out to be LAs. (According to the new version of Law 16, a call can be disallowed even if it is not a LA.)
