US Senior Team Trials Round of 16

In today's US senior team trials there were many tight matches in the round of 16. Scores can be found here: http://usbf.org/docs/vugraphs/USSBC2012/Bracket.php?stage=Roundof16

In the Kasle / Cappelli match the Kasle team was stuck 23 IMPS at the beginning of the final segment but shot into the lead on this crucial deal, board 77:

At this table 5 was interpreted asking for second-round control of clubs. I am not sure what it should be; the auctionisrather obscure (it's not even in LC Standard!Smile). Cappelli likely intended it as a general slam try in spades, since 4 clearly wouldn’t be enough.

Boyd and Robinson had a clear agreement that 4NT was Blackwood in this sequence, which seems practical. Using DOPI they discovered they were missing two aces, starting the Kasle team (and this writer's favorite senior pair Woolsey/Stewart) onthe path to victory. In addition, if Kit goes on to win the trials, think about all the great material he'll have for us in Kit’s Korner!

In the Onstott / Deutsch match it was all tied going into this, the 90th and final board of the match:

I was on the edge of my seat for the final hand, but unfortunately my Vugraph connection died and once I was able to get back on, all I was left with was the score: game was bid and made in the other room, and Onstott advanced.

2. Milner (Reese Milner, Hemant Lall, David Berkowitz, Alan Sontag, Matthew Granovetter, Ron Rubin)
vs.
7. Onstott (John Onstott, Bruce Fergusun, Drew Casen, Jim Krekorian, Farid Assemi, Edward Wojewoda)

3. Moss (Michael Moss, Mark Lair, Fred Hamilton, Arnold Fisher, Dan Morse, Bobby Wolff)
