Use of resources

ACBL's membership has been rather steady over the past twenty years. Steady at about 165,000. During that period, the number of ACBL clubs has fallen from 3,500 in 1999, to where it is today, at about 2,700. One hundred clubs will be lost this year alone, continuing an accelerating trend that has seen us lose four hundred clubs in just the last five years. Yet our overall membership during this club collapse has been steady.

Why have so many clubs failed? Is there a common denominator? Even so, why has membership remained steady?

I believe there are implications here that may suggest how ACBL can target its limited resources.
