What do you call an 8 card suit?

If you said "trump", you'd be wrong twice.

Today I held not 1, but 2 8-card suits, on consecutive hands no less.

First hand.

I opened 3 (yes, I know, most of you would open 4, but was leery about going down more than the value of their game) and partner bid 3N.

Making 7 for a top. Every other NS pair was in 4 or 5 spades, making either 5 or 6.

Second hand.

This time with vulnerabilty in my favor, I bid 4 over my RHO's 3rd seat 1.

5 made 5 (should make 6), for a tie for bottom as 3 NS pairs were allowed to play in 3 or 4.

5x goes down 4.

So there I sat, with 2 8-card spade suits and I didn't get to play either!
