What does 3 clubs mean?

World-wide pairs, Saturday, board 22.The opponents are an inexperienced partnership I think, but LHO is certainly a very experienced player.

I'm on lead and ask "is everything natural?" and both players say yes. Reluctant to lead a club here, visualizing declarer's hand as probably being 4234 shape, I picked on T. This resulted in them making an overtrick and 430 giving us a 13% score. After the hand we called the director at which time, dummy said that he bid 3 because he had five hearts and wanted partner to support with three. Declarer was not on the same page obviously. The director ruling was to take the table result.

It's no big deal but I'm curious what others think so, did we get a poor director ruling? did I simply make a bad lead? or was it the rub of the green?

Poor ruling
Bad lead
Rub of the green
