What is 1NT - 3C(puppetish) - 3D - 4m?

In a standard 2/1 context, what do the following sequences mean:

1NT - 3 -

3 - 4/?

  • opponents are silent throughout
  • 3 asks about a five card major
  • 3 denies a five card major (in the variation I use, it says nothing about 4 card majors)
  • Please assume also an agreement that allows responder to look for slam in the minor opposite a 1NT opening by starting with 2 (Stayman) then bidding 3 of his minor.
