What should 3N mean?

Curtis Cheek and Huub Bertens put a good 6H on us yesterday with a sequence that started

2N-3C (regular stayman)

3H-3S (slam try confirming hearts)

3N!- (then cuebid-cuebid-keycard-6)

3N was properly alerted as a spade control. That was a new treatment I had not seen before. (Yes, I am familiar with replacement cuebids in other sequences.)

My question is "What is the best use for 3N in this sequence?"

Natural, choice of games (probably 4333)
Serious slam try
Non-serious slam try
Spade control
Relay (pattern ask - responder bids "balanced, shortness up the line")
Regressive (slam negative)
