Opening lead was Club Ace, followed by King, and a lowest , partner (south hand) trumping low.  At trick 4 south leads the T, declarer west plays the Q, and it loses to the stiff king in north hand.  A low comes back from north, trumped with 7 but over ruffed with Ten, and a diamond is returned which north trumps.  He cashes ace of , and south still must get the KIng.  9 tricks for the defense - well done.

We play 2/1 GF with 15-17NTs +/- and 1C opener 2+ (2 only if 4-4 in Majors), and support doubles

We didn't discuss the bidding at the table because we just moved on to the next hand.  However, there were two immediate bidding decision issues and practices involved.  We are playing 2/1 with 15-17 NT+/- and support doubles

1)  Should East open his flat 12-count with 1 ? (no wk or mini NT option)  I held the East hand and, with P wanting me to open all 12-count, I opened 1 (my instinct was to pass that flat junk 8+ loser hand but then I get yelled at)   Do you agree with opening this hand  -  is it now automatic at both red?   Fwiw: the K&R hand evaluation of this hand is 10.7 pts

2)  If the common judgment is to open the East hand,  Do you support partner's spades immediately despite the overcall on the barest of minimums,  This question could be expanded to ask if you automatically make a support double even on flat minimums, hands that are minimum weak NT?

I know maybe a trick or two could have been saved, but the issue here was how to avoid getting so overboard.  This write feels that opening the East hand was ill-advised.  So I plead guilty to crimes against common sense bridge but i also claim that i was led astray by evil companions.

So, what do you all say:  (no more sayests or sayeths from me for a while)

open the hand or not?

if you open it, do you immediately support partners spades?

I pass the East hand in first seat vul
I open the East hand in first seat Vul and support my partner's spades immediately over the 2 overcall - this doesn't show anything extra in high cards or shape
I open the East hand 1 but pass after the 2 overcall. I will support spades after partner makes his next call
other: there is always other: just please specify/ offer a suggestion of how this could have been avoided or else no fair - thanx
