I showed this hand to about twenty people.  Nineteen raised hearts, usually to the four level.  As I anticipated, Zach Grossack bid 1, as did at least two players when the hand was actually played, on the assumption that the critical thing to do at these colors was to talk the opponents out of their cold 4 contract.

Bidding 4 is hopeless, as partner will certainly treat it as a cuebid and you will end up in some number of spades.  On a good day, you'll get doubled and can run to hearts.

You could try 6, which will surely have some play, and may wake partner up.

At IMPs, there's something to be said for passing and taking a small loss, but -100 at MP will be just as bad as -500.  How can you arrange to go plus?

Bid 4.  Partner, who would have been unlikely to splinter with only Qxxxx in his first suit, will surely make a return cue of 4, which you can pass.
