You Suspect a Psyche
(Page of 2)

Playing SWISS TEAMS

East is the dealer. Sitting North with none vulnerable, you hold AKXAKXXXJXKQX. It goes pass-pass-1D-double by you-1S-2H-pass. Suspecting a possible psyche by East, what do you bid? The West player is known to psyche frequently at equal or favorable vulnerability. Before the match started I had cautioned my partner that the West player regularly psyches in this kind of situation. So what would you do at this point?

I had warned partner about West's (not East-sorry) propensity to psyche. When partner bid 2H I assumed he was competing with something like five hearts to the Q and maybe the club ace. Now I am between a rock and a hard place. I could cuebid 3D (probably my best action), bid 4H or check for keycards. Alas I bid 4H, assuming partner would have bid 3H with the same hand he would have bid 2H, had East passed. Had he bid 3H, I would have checked for aces and bid 6H. this board cost us the match.
