With all due respect - this story (which I can easily believe, and which must have been a frustrating disappointment to the author) has absolutely zip to do with cheating allegations.

Espen is absolutely right here - all that Boye did up to now (that we know of) was worth the highest praise. And it was not him who took the decision concerning the current situation of the Polish team - in fact he did express strong disagreement with the way things are proceeding.

If this is indeed the case and the evidence is forthcoming (which I have no reasons to doubt, and so far no concrete reasons to believe), Poland will clearly withdraw from BB and the discussion will become pointless.

David, please do tell us what you know. There is nothing else all the Polish bridge players have been asking for on this forum for the last three days.

In response to Melanie:

>>Or, the PBU could think that the arguments for B & Z are good enough, but just wants to have a team in the Bermuda Bowl, regardless – no matter what the impact on others.

This approach would in the end first and foremost have a very tragic impact on the professional bridge in Poland for years and years to come. I would believe in fact this would be much graver than the current consequences for the other teams.

Let me reiterate Tomasz's words (and we do not agree that often): Boye has become a hero of the Polish bridge community, and no Polish player came out saying `OK, even if they cheated - be it in Opatija or not - the team should just continue without them'. Just the opposite - if there is evidence, we do agree that not only we should withdraw now, but the titles won in the past with the BZ participation need to be rescinded. PBU is not helping in the slightest, by not releasing any extra information to the community - in particular not stating whether it accepts the decision by the WBF as the right one (if yes, why?) or whether it demands more information (if not, why not?).

I (and I guess most Polish players) follow a `natural' agreement: small (= smaller chances of taking the trick) -> I want my partner to ruff high

What Boye did was undoubtedly more important and deserving more applause. But this may well be something that was more difficult to do. Words of respect and wishes to return to a clean game in a few years' time.

This used to be a standard method in Poland 10-15 years ago; nowadays this is no longer that fashionable, as you lose one important feature - possibility to evaluate the opener's hand after 2 spades versus club suitability, as opposed to an undescribed invitational bid. As (almost) always - you gain something, you lose something.

Huge respect to the players and to the federation. Note a very well worded statement.
